Harrison: Want to help win games

Striker Ellis Harrison previews this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Barrow at Stadium MK...

Ellis Harrison got off the mark in MK Dons colours last weekend but the striker is only focused on bringing victories to Stadium MK – and hopes to help the team get back to winning ways this weekend against Barrow.

Harrison arrived at the Club on Deadline Day, making the switch from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee to bolster Graham Alexander’s attacking options.

The 29-year-old has scored 88 goals during his career, including last Saturday’s headed effort against Gillingham. It’s clear, though, that Harrison would have much rather swapped that goal for three points.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of today’s clash with Barrow, the former Wales youth international said: “Of course, I’m pleased to score, although I wish it came a lot sooner. It’s not about me scoring, though – it’s about winning games.

“Winning games is important to me. If I don’t score all season but I still help the team win the league, then I’d be happy.

“We are all winners here and we want to win games but, of course, it hasn’t been that way in the last month. We’re obviously a little bit edgy at the moment because of that.

“We can certainly try (and win the game against Barrow). We’re always going to try our best – we don’t go into any game expecting to lose.

“We always have a positive mindset and the staff are always there to encourage us. We will always go out there and give it our all but we know it’s a results-based game.”

Harrison continued: “The ball doesn’t seem to be falling for us at the moment but I honestly believe we’re doing a lot of the right things. We’re not going to shy away from the results but I think we’re really close.

“As players, we need to show accountability in our actions. When we’re on the pitch, we’ve got to do our jobs and avoid making errors – if we’re not doing that, we need to be held accountable.

“In every job in the world, people make errors, though - that’s just what happens. People make mistakes and it’s how you learn from them and bounce back.

“We’ve got some real talent in this team and if we can keep pushing and working hard, I’m sure we’ll get our rewards for it.

“Plus, there is no point being X amount of points clear at Christmas - it’s about where you are in April that matters. Hopefully we’ll be up there.”
